Encourage the use of integrated data systems
Integrated data systems can be used to better understand the interactions of homeless persons within the homeless assistance system and other local, state, and federal programs. Integrated data systems can also be used to better target housing resources to those individuals or families who are the most vulnerable or who are using the most community resources. The plan should encourage communities and states to consider creating integrated data systems, provide guidance on how to implement and use integrated data systems so they provide the most valuable information while simultaneously protecting the privacy rights of homeless persons, and provide guidance on how to use the data to more effectively target scarce resources to the most vulnerable populations and subpopulations.

Please include the public schools' data systems in this integration! Due to the privacy of school records, community agencies and schools cannot easily share information and data on those we both serve. Including a few additional questions on the HMIS intake form (about children of preschool and school age) could be a major step toward coordination of services.
